What Do Doctors Do In A Physical At The Hospital

A doctor will check the health of a patient's heart during the physical.

Occasional doctor appointments are useful for individuals seeking to have a full bill of health. Having a yearly physical examination allows doctors and physicians to check the entire body for any problems. Upon passing a physical, individuals will be declared healthy and able to participate in sports. Doctors and physicians follow a few general procedures during a physical.

Initial Evaluation

At the beginning of the appointment, also called the initial evaluation, patients will receive a few medical forms. The forms will ask for the patient's age, weight, height and other physical information. Additionally, the forms will ask about the patient's health history, such as any allergies, any medications currently taken, family health history and any past surgeries. After completing the medical forms, the patient will meet with the doctor to begin the physical.

Meeting with the Doctor

The patient will meet the doctor or physician to have further discussions about the patient's health. The doctor may ask about the patient's diet and exercise. Additionally, the doctor may ask any other questions to make sure the patient has no health problems that would conflict with the evaluation process. The patient is required to give a sample of urine to check for any health problems that could be hidden from the doctor or physician.

Generalized Physical

The physical continues with the physician or doctor checking the patient using medical equipment. The specialist focuses on the heart, lungs, muscles and skeletal system in order to check the patient's vitals. The patient's heart health is checked by participating in a light exercise. The doctor checks the patient's heartbeat and rate. The doctor will check male patients for a hernia.

Complete Physical

Complete physical evaluations will involve more advanced procedures. The doctor will have one-on-one time with younger patients in order to find out about confidential information such as sexual activity and drug usage. The patient will often be required to undress in front of the doctor. An immunization and lab test may be given if the doctor finds something suspect during the evaluation.
