Medical Laboratory Science programs in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) prepare students for a career in a hospital, clinic or testing facility where medical laboratory technologists perform analytical procedures on blood samples as well as on tissue and bodily fluid samples. These technologists function as an integral part of the health care system.
University of Ontario Institute of Technology
The University of Ontario Institute of Technology offers a four-year Bachelor of Health Science in Medical Laboratory Science. The full-time program combines the fundamentals of human biology and physical and health science with the skills necessary for laboratory and analytical work. Students will become competent in the practice of blood collection throughout the first three years of the program and will apply these skills during practical placements in the fourth academic year under the supervision of experienced medical laboratory technologists. Graduates of the program write the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) examination for Canada-wide certification. Prospective students must have a secondary school diploma with a minimum of 60 percent in English, advanced functions, biology and chemistry.
