Radiologists are responsible for helping doctors diagnose patients through use of X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging, and computerized tomography. If you are a patient, detail-oriented person and like working with machines and people, follow these steps to prepare for a job in radiology.

1. Inquire about the occupation during career days at your high school. Check out school-to-work programs and try to spend some time job shadowing a radiologist to see what their career is like.
2. Become a radiology assistant first to make sure you are suited to the occupation. You will still need some college training to become an assistant, but you will be well on your way to becoming a licensed radiologist.
3. Perform an Internet search to find a college or community college near you offering a certificate program to become a radiologist or an assistant, or check the yellow pages. Get recommendations on schools from radiologists in your area.
4. Plan to spend from one to four years in training for your radiology job. Although a two-year program leading to an associate degree is the most common, expect to obtain a Bachelor's or Master's degree to qualify for teaching or management positions.
5. Join the U.S. Armed Forces and pursue a course of study that will lead you to a career in radiology. Most military programs will administer various tests to ensure you are suited to the occupation, but allow some latitude in career direction.
6. Apply for loans, grants and scholarships or check with local hospitals to see if they offer financial help for obtaining a radiology license. Gather your finances and get the training you need to qualify for a job as a radiologist.
