Radiology is a rapidly growing field of diagnostic tools and treatments that span many different approaches and procedures. Nuclear medicine is used for X-rays, Computed Tomography (CT) scans, Positron Emission Tomography Computed Tomography (PET-CT) scans, functional Magnetic Resource Imaging (MRI) and radiation treatment of cancer and other diseases. The expertise required to understand the technology and use it most effectively on each patient is immense, requiring years of specialized training. Several schools in Canada offer radiology programs.
Queen's University
Located in Kingston, Ontario, Queen's University Department of Radiology offers a comprehensive residency training program in conjunction with Kingston General Hospital. The four-year program combines intense classroom lectures, with a series of practical rotations, that include stints in general surgery, orthopedic surgery, oncology, neuroradiology, mammography and MRI. A pediatric rotation at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children is also included as part of the program. Upon successful completion, students are adequately skilled to pursue a practice in general radiology or to further specialize in a particular field. In addition to the residency program, a number of elective and "observership" courses, where a student observes a clinician while in the course of rounds in a ward or hospital, are available for those seeking a more general understanding of clinical radiology.

University of British Columbia
Located in Vancouver, the University of British Columbia offers a variety of radiology programs through the Faculty of Medicine's Department of Radiology. The program is the only one of its kind in B.C. and has developed partnerships with hospitals throughout the province. A number of fellowship programs are available, including, chest imaging, neuroradiology, MRI and pediatric radiology. Residencies are available in radiology and nuclear medicine. The department has an active research mandate, currently working on programs examining functional cancer imaging and radiation dose optimization.

University of Alberta
Located in Alberta's capital city of Edmonton, University of Alberta offers a range of fellowships, residencies and and research programs in its Department of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging. Fellowships are delivered in partnership with a number of Edmonton area hospitals, and include one-year posts in angio-interventional radiology, body imaging radiology, musculoskeletal radiology and pediatric radiology. Residency training is available in diagnostic radiology and nuclear medicine. In addition, medical students and medical practitioners have access to a number of radiology courses and workshops.
