Champions League Card Rules

Be a soccer star with the Super Strikes card game.

Soccer can be played on the field, in a video game, as a fantasy league and with Champions League Super Strikes, as a card game. In Super Strikes, you form a team of players using cards that correspond to famous players in the league. After you have a team, you face off against another player to see who has the strongest offense and most powerful defense.

Player Cards

Each card has an image of a player as well as three numbers listed on the bottom. The number in the red arrow is called your player's defense rating, the number in the green arrow is his attack rating. The number in the gold circle is called the star rating.

Your Team

Choose 14 cards from your Super Strikes collection to form your team roster. Of these 14 cards, 11 will be used right off the bat as your starting players while your other three cards are considered alternates. Fill your roster with players for each position on the field: defender, midfielder, forward and goalie.

Send the Players to the Field

Set your cards in front of you with your goalie closest to you followed by your defenders, midfielders and forwards. You can have any combination of players as long as you use all eleven players and have one goalie and at least one of each other position. For example, you can choose to have one goalie, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards. Player position is determined by the icon on the top right of the face of the card as well as the main image on the back of the card.

Strategy

Decide with your opponent if you will play your cards faceup, facedown, or a combination of the two. Playing faceup allows you to know the location of each player at any given time so you can utilize your strong players, though your opponent can make decisions based on the visible positioning of your players. Facedown keeps each player blind to his opponent while a combination can hide key players or allow you to bluff and have weak players hidden, keeping your opponent on his guard.

Game Flow

Start the match by deciding who goes first. Flip a coin or draw a random card from your extra players and compare star ratings with the highest going first. The first player then picks one of his players from the field and decides to attack or defend. The other player chooses his own player and will perform the opposite action of the first player. For example, if the first player chooses to attack the opponent will defend. At this point players compare their ratings from their cards with the attacking player using his attack rating and the defending player using his defense rating. If both ratings are the same, use the star rating to break the tie.

Face-Off Winner

The winner of the face-off collects both cards and places them next to him. He also gets to start the next round. Continue until each player has their goalie and just one other player left on the board.

Send in the Subs

Three times in the course of the round you can switch out any player for a sub. Remove the original player card from the game and place the sub in his position. Subs are used if you know you have a lower rating than an opponent and need a quick save.

Goalie

Look at the bottom right corner of your remaining player card to see his super strike rating, which is an image of a goal with a red box colored in at one point. Now look at the opposing player's goalie card. Instead of a strike rating he has a picture of the goal with several red boxes colored in. If the player's red box and the goalie's red box do not overlap the player wins the shot, otherwise the goalie wins.

Winning

Count up the total number of cards you have in your possession at the end of the round. The winner is the player with the most cards. Return your opponent's cards to him or play for keeps and keep one of his cards as a reward for winning the round.
