repair-a-kohler-sink-faucet

If your Kohler sink faucet has a leak it is time to repair it. Replacing the cartridge is the most effective way to stop leaks, since most leaks come from worn-out seals or valve parts inside the cartridge. Replacing this part only takes about a half hour if you're familiar with home repairs. If not, set aside a good hour to get this job done. It is a common repair and will work on other types of faucets as well.

Instructions

1. Turn off the water to the faucet by closing the valves on the pipes below the sink. They are accessed by opening the cabinet doors. Be sure to turn both of the them to the closed position.

2. Find the set screw on the back of the faucet and loosen this with an Allen wrench. Slide off the handle by pulling it up and away from the faucet.

3. Remove the molded bonnet (located on the faucet under the handle) and then unscrew the washer underneath it. Take off the stem adapter and then pull the cartridge out of the faucet head by gripping the stem and lifting it up.

4. Replace the cartridge with a brand new one that is made for your particular model of Kohler sink faucet.

5. Replace the stem adapter and washer, then tighten the washer by hand. Replace the molded bonnet and then replace the handle by sliding it on the cartridge stem. Thread the set screw into the mounting hole on the back of the faucet and tighten it with the Allen wrench.
