Optiplex Gx270 Vs Optiplex 210l

The Dell OptiPlex GX270 and the Dell OptiPlex 210L -- released in 2003 and 2007, respectively -- are part of a brand of desktop personal computers from technology company Dell Inc. dedicated to serving the corporate, government and education sectors.

Operating System, Processor and System Memory

The Dell OptiPlex GX270 and the Dell OptiPlex 210L are mainly based on the Microsoft Windows XP operating system, although some GX270s may run on the Windows 2000 platform instead. Each desktop uses a midrange Intel Pentium or low-end Celeron processor, with the Intel 865G chipset for the GX270 and the Intel 915GV for the 210L facilitating data transfer speeds of up to 800 megahertz. The GX270 comes with up to 4 gigabytes of system memory, while the 210L usually offers 2GB.

Storage and Multimedia

The Dell OptiPlex GX270 offers a 40GB, 80GB or 120GB hard disk drive, while the Dell OptiPlex 210L is available in configurations of 40GB, 80GB, 160GB and 250GB. Also included is an optical drive, the capability of which ranges from playing CDs to playing and recording on CDs and DVDs. The video/graphics controller, which is motherboard-integrated, is Intel Extreme Graphics 2 for the OptiPlex GX270 and the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900 for the OptiPlex 210L.

Networking and Connectivity

Although the Dell OptiPlex GX270 and the Dell OptiPlex 210L do not have wireless networking capabilities, they each have an Ethernet connection for wired networking. The GX270 has an Intel PRO 1-gigabit driver, while the 210L has a slower 100-megabit-per-second Intel adapter. The external connectors on each computer include an RJ-45 jack for the Ethernet, serial and parallel ports, Video Graphics Array port for the computer monitor, and headphone and microphone jacks. The GX270 offers eight USB 2.0 ports, while the 210L provides six.

Models

The Dell OptiPlex GX270 is available in three forms, which are the mini-tower, desktop and small form factor in descending order of size. The GX270 mini-tower has a 7.13-inch width, 17.61 inches in depth and 16.75 inches in height with a vertical orientation. The GX270 desktop and small form factor have measurements of 4.25 by 16.97 by 15.37 inches and 3.57 by 13.93 by 12.54 inches, respectively. The 210L leaves out the small form factor, thus offering a mini-tower, which measures 17.2 by 7.3 by 16.2 inches; and a desktop, which measures 14 by 4.5 by 15.9 inches -- both in vertical orientation.
