Removing your old laminated walls is the first step in remodeling the bathroom.
According to Accurate Inspections, Masonite is a brand of decorative pressed wood often found as a tub or shower surround. Removing a laminated bathroom wall can be difficult because of the way it was originally installed with powerful adhesives. Removing your old laminated Masonite bathroom wall is a good start if you plan to change to a tiled wall.
Instructions
1. Grasp the molding that seals the seams around the exterior of the laminated Masonite wall with your hands and pull it away from the bathroom wall.
2. Put on a pair of safety goggles to protect your eyes from debris.
3. Slide the blade of a flex scraper between the laminated Masonite wall panel and the wallboard below it. The panel is attached with a very strong wall adhesive. Slowly peel the old laminated Masonite bathroom wall away from the wallboard.
4. Scrape the remainder of the adhesive off the wallboard using the flex scraper.
5. Sand the wallboard with medium grit sandpaper to remove any adhesive that remains. Take care not to damage the wallboard. Make sure you are still wearing your safety goggles while sanding.
