Make A Cheap Flash Diffuser

A diffuser will soften light.

A diffuser is often used in photography to make light appear less harsh and more even. It is placed in front of the flash for the light to shoot through. Using a diffuser can make artificial light look more natural, as well as softening shadows and highlights for a more flattering look. Purchasing a professional diffuser from a photo shop can be expensive. However, there are significantly cheaper homemade versions that can do the job just as well.

Instructions

1. Measure out a piece of the ripstop nylon large enough to place over your flash.

2. Carefully cut the nylon to the correct size.

3. Set the nylon face down and place strips of stick-on Velcro along the left and right sides.

4. Apply stick-on Velcro strips to the left and right sides of your flash.

5. Stick the diffuser to the flash.

Tips Warnings

To prevent fraying, use a lighter to melt the edges of the nylon.
