Drawer glides allow a drawer to slide in and out smoothly and without much resistance. If you have drawers in piece of older furniture then those drawers may not have drawer glides attached, and you probably have noticed how much harder those drawers are to open than the drawers in new pieces of furniture that do come with glides attached. You may also have a piece of furniture in which the drawer glides have become warn and need to be replaced. No matter whether you are installing drawer glides onto a drawer for the first time or simply replacing old and worn drawer glides, follow the instructions below to learn how.
Instructions
1. Remove the old drawer glides if there are any. Use your Phillips screw driver to remove the screws holding the glides in place. If there are any staples you can use a slotted screw driver to remove them.
2. Determine how the drawer glides will line up for installation for both the inner cabinet and the sides of the drawer box. The manufacturers of the drawer glides will have them clearly labeled for the left and right sides a swell as which end goes toward the front of the drawer.
3. Install the drawer glides in the cabinet, placing the glide so that it is in the drawer opening, with the bottom rail resting on the bottom of the opening, with the front of the lid lined up even with the outside of the cabinet. Make sure the glide is level before securing it in the front and back with 1/4-inch screws.
4. Repeat the previous step on the other side to install that side's drawer glide.
5. Line up the front of the glide for the drawer glide in place while inserting screws at the front and rear of the rail.
6. Drop the wheels at the rear of the drawer box into the rails in the cabinet and lower the drawer in until it is level. Roll the drawer the rest of the way in.
7. Make sure the drawer rolls all the way in and out easily and will be completely closed when at rest.
