Canvas Beach Frame Craft Projects

Paint a beach landscape on a canvas frame to create wall art.

Create beach-themed canvas frame projects for your home using mementos from your last vacation or items picked up at your local craft store. Available in a variety of shapes and sizes at most craft stores, canvas frames are not just for painting projects; they also make decorative or supportive backgrounds for a variety of craft projects.

Collage

Glue an arrangement of seashells, dried starfish and sea glass onto the canvas frame to create a beach collage wall hanging. One part of epoxy jeweler's glue works well to hold the various collage components in place. Place a small amount of glue on a small section of the canvas and on the back side of the beach elements. Wait one minute for the glue to activate before pressing the components onto the canvas. Continue to work in small sections at a time to cover the canvas. Leave the canvas face up on a flat surface for at least 24 hours to allow the adhesive to dry.

Decoupage

Create a photo display of your family's beach vacation with decoupage glue and a canvas frame. For a more dramatic effect, paint the top two-thirds of the canvas with blue acrylic to represent the ocean and the bottom one-third beige to represent sand. After the paint dries, apply a thin layer of decoupage medium onto a few of the areas of the canvas where you plan to place the photos. Press the photos into the glue and repeat the process to add as many photos as you wish. Cover the top of the photos and the painted areas of the canvas with another thin layer of decoupage glue. Allow the glue to dry. Build up several layers of decoupage medium on the photos. Let each one dry in between coats.

Landscape

Paint a beach landscape on the canvas frame with acrylics. Separate the canvas into the background colors of sea, sand and sky and let the paint dry. Paint the sky bright blue to mimic a sunny day or shades of orange, red and yellow to simulate a sunrise or sunset. With stencils and templates, draw a pier that stretches into the ocean from the sand, dolphins swimming in the water and people strolling along the shore. Dot the landscape with seagulls and seashells to complete the image.

Sand Art

Create a beach theme canvas landscape using sand in shades of beige and blue. Lay the canvas on sheets of newspaper or other loose paper. Spread liquid craft glue on the canvas and cover the glue with the appropriate color of sand to match the landscape. Work in small sections to fill the canvas. After the glue dries, tilt the canvas to dislodge any loose sand onto the paper. Fill in areas with glue and sand as needed. Spray polyurethane onto the sand art projects after the glue dries completely. Enhance the wall art by scattering a few shells along the beach scene with glue.
